For the second time, O’Connell Robertson has received an Employers for Education Excellence (EEE) Award from the State Board of Education in recognition of the Firm’s “outstanding support of Texas public schools. ” The EEE award was established in 2007 by the Texas Legislature to honor Texas employers who encourage and support staff participation and voluntarism in the public schools. O’Connell Robertson previously received the award in 2011; companies are eligible to apply again after three years. Only seven firms statewide received EEE Awards in 2015.

On Oct. 9, 60 students enrolled in the architecture and engineering programs at San Antonio College (SAC) spent the morning at one of 17 local firms as part of the Second Annual SAC A/E Job Shadow Day. Groups of students were assigned to each firm based on their career interests. The firms provided office and project tours, involved students in meetings, and demonstrated design programs to give them  the opportunity to learn firsthand what a career in their chosen profession will be like, and the skills and education required

Two new schools designed by O’Connell Robertson have been recognized for outstanding educational facility design in the 2015 edition of Learning by Design, a national publication that showcases innovative school design and construction projects. A peer-review jury evaluated all projects based on six criteria: Innovation, Community Need, Interior Design, Sustainability, Functional Design and 21st Century Learning.

For more than six decades, O’Connell Robertson has applied a mission-driven approach to design that focuses on the purpose each facility serves. To commemorate its 65th year in business, the firm will make donations in honor of its clients and employees to several representative education and healthcare organizations. The financial contributions will be announced during a staff celebration on October 23.

The last steel beam was placed on the Texas Advanced Computing Center during a topping out ceremony on August 5 on the University of Texas J.J. Pickle Research Campus in Austin. Members of the O’Connell Robertson/Flintco design-build team, along with UT System and TACC faculty and staff, signed the beam before it was lifted to the top of the building.

O’Connell Robertson’s design of the new Success High School in Round Rock ISD earned one of two 2015 Architecture Merit Awards presented by the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI) Southern Region Chapter during the group’s annual conference in San Antonio on Saturday (April 11).

The master plan for the new Austin Community College Highland Campus was one of only four projects recognized with an “Award of Excellence” in the Spring 2015 issue of Learning By Design. Twice each year, the publication showcases the nation's best education design and construction projects. A panel of architects reviews all submissions and selects the outstanding projects to showcase and from those, projects deserving special recognition.

San Antonio, Texas — O’Connell Robertson is serving as the local host firm for teams participating in the Planning + Design Challenge 2015, a student exercise held in conjunction with the PDC Summit, a conference focused on healthcare planning, design and construction that will be held in San Antonio, March 15-18. Four teams of architecture, engineering and construction management students and their faculty advisors will participate in the challenge, with each team including a student from Clemson, Texas A&M, Penn State, and Purdue Universities. The purpose is to pose a real world challenge that helps students appreciate a multi-disciplinary work culture and hone their inter-professional skills while exploring innovative design, planning and engineering solutions.

Austin, Texas — The new Rise School of Austin has achieved an Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) 4 Star Rating for exceptional accomplishments in designing and building a sustainable building. Projects are rated on a 1 to 5 star scale, with 5 stars being the highest rating. O’Connell Robertson provided architecture, MEP engineering, and interior design services for the high-performance building; Burt Watts was the construction manager.

Austin, Texas — More than 100 staff and supporters attended a groundbreaking celebration yesterday (Feb. 18) for the new Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) office building on The University of Texas J.J. Pickle Research Campus. The new facility, which will support research and activities promoting the field of advanced computing and computational science, is a design/build project being completed by the team of O’Connell Robertson and Flintco.

The William R. Sinkin Eco Centro at San Antonio College is now Alamo Colleges' first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building. The certification was awarded this week by the U.S. Green Building Council. O'Connell Robertson provided comprehensive architecture, engineering, interior design and construction administration services for the facility.

Austin and San Antonio, Texas — O’Connell Robertson was one of only 16 architectural firms in the nation and the only Texas firm to be recognized with a 2014-2017 Intern Development Program (IDP) Firm Award from the Internship Advisory Committee. The award recognizes firms that demonstrate a commitment to interns by making the path to licensure an integral part of the firm’s culture. O’Connell Robertson was also the only Texas firm to receive a 2011-2014 IDP Firm Award.

On September 11, students, faculty, administrators, board members, and community members in Round Rock ISD celebrated the opening of the new Success High School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the campus, which officially opened for the 2014-2015 school year. The residents of Rankin County are one step closer to having a new critical access hospital and wellness center to replace the existing hospital built nearly 60 years ago. A groundbreaking ceremony on March 7 marked the official start of construction on the new facilities, scheduled for completion in early 2015.
