Belton, Texas — Students, faculty, and community supporters gathered this week for the historic ground breaking of Belton ISD’s new Lake Belton High School. The new high school will serve as the second comprehensive high school in the fast growth school district. The project is part of Belton ISD’s Roadmap to BISD 2025, a 10-year facilities master plan to provide capacity for growth through 2025. Attendees at the event included School Board Presidents spanning the last 38 years who witnessed the unveiling of the school mascot – the Lake Belton Broncos.

Elgin, Texas — On February 6, Austin Community College (ACC) celebrated the opening of Phase II on their ACC Elgin campus with a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception that included self-guided tours of the new spaces for their Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship and Veterinary Technology programs.

Belton, Texas — This week teachers, students and administrators held a groundbreaking to celebrate the start of construction for the new Charter Oak Elementary School. When completed for the 2019 start of classes, the new 82,300 SF Charter Oak Elementary School will have capacity for 800 students.

Austin, Texas — Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Central Texas Bennet-Rathgeber Mentoring Center has received an Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) 3-Star rating; the Case Study has been published by AEGB. The facility is officially part of a nationally certified LEED Gold Neighborhood Development in Rathgeber Village, part of the larger redevelopment of the old Mueller Airport. The Mentoring Center is the new BBBS Texas headquarters, and the 21,000 sf two-story building quadruples the amount of space available to serve children and families.

San Antonio, Texas – On October 13, sixty-eight students enrolled in the architecture and engineering programs at San Antonio College (SAC) shadowed at 20 participating local firms as part of the Fourth Annual SAC A/E Job Shadow Day. Students were assigned in groups to firms across San Antonio based on career interests. They visited workspaces, took project tours, and participated in project meetings. They observed how the different disciplines collaborate across project phasing, gained exposure to design software utilized, and discussed the skills and education required attain their chosen profession.

San Antonio, Texas – On October 7, more than 65 students enrolled in the architecture and engineering programs at San Antonio College (SAC) spent the morning at one of 17 local firms as part of the Third Annual SAC A/E Job Shadow Day. Groups of students were assigned to each firm based on their career interests. The firms provided office and project tours, involved students in meetings, and demonstrated design programs to give them the opportunity to learn firsthand what a career in their chosen profession will be like, and the skills and education required

San Antonio, Texas — To help teachers prepare for the first day of classes, Danny Cornejo, O’Connell Robertson’s regional marketing and business development coordinator, and Jayme Green, architecture intern, delivered school supplies to Morningside Elementary School in Comal ISD. Employees in the Firm’s San Antonio office donated the supplies to Morningside, a feeder school for the new Middle School #6 being designed by O’Connell Robertson.

Austin, Texas — A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Newton Collins Elementary School took place Saturday, August 6, at the site of the future campus on Colton Bluff-Springs Road. Del Valle ISD’s ninth elementary school is expected to be completed next summer in time for the 2017-2018 school year.

Austin, Texas — On June 2, the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) celebrated its 15th anniversary with the dedication of its new Advanced Computing Center Building on the University of Texas J.J. Pickle Research Campus in Austin. The new 38,000 SF, three-story facility provides offices, an auditorium, meeting rooms, and a state-of-the-art visualization lab to support TACC’s mission of “advancing science and society through the application of advanced computing technologies” through the design and operation of some of the largest supercomputers in the world.

Austin and San Antonio, Texas — The recent leadership transition that will better support O’Connell Robertson’s vision of growth, innovation and enhanced expertise has also led to the promotion of two construction administrators to directors.  Rob Hudock and Jason Reed, both Associates in the Firm, will now serve as Director of Austin Construction Administration and Director of San Antonio Construction Administration, respectively. Kim Cochran, a principal in the Firm who has led the Construction Administration (CA) Department for several years, was recently named Chief Operating Officer.  With Kim’s expanded duties, Hudock and Reed will be responsible for providing oversight for the CA assignments, scheduling, and resources in each office.

To commemorate its 65th year in business, O’Connell Robertson will make donations totaling $6,500 to three representative education and healthcare organizations in honor of all its clients and employees. As part of a staff anniversary celebration on October 23, each employee received $65 in “corporate cash” to allocate as they wished among the three representative client organizations. The Firm will match the amount delegated and present the donations to each organization in the coming weeks.

For the second time, O’Connell Robertson has received an Employers for Education Excellence (EEE) Award from the State Board of Education in recognition of the Firm’s “outstanding support of Texas public schools. ” The EEE award was established in 2007 by the Texas Legislature to honor Texas employers who encourage and support staff participation and voluntarism in the public schools. O’Connell Robertson previously received the award in 2011; companies are eligible to apply again after three years. Only seven firms statewide received EEE Awards in 2015.
